PRESS RELEASE 17/6/2007

A STAR IS BORN AT ‘HEART & SOUL’

Over forty local families took part in a colourful event which raised over £300 for The Baby Café Charitable Trust, a nationwide charity that began life with a single Baby Café in Sussex Road, Haywards Heath, six years ago.

During the three-day event Heart & Soul held a baby photo competition in conjunction with Picsnapper Photography.  Music Bus, Kindermusik and Happy Little Hands also hosted a number of free taster sessions covering music and baby signing.  A baby massage class was provided by local massage therapist Jenny Bleakley and Brighton Artist Rachel Pearce organised a stunning display of baby portraits.

The very first Baby Café was established in Haywards Heath by two local mothers Catherine Pardoe and Julie Williams.  They realised there was a need for a local drop-in centre where breastfeeding mums could relax with a cup of tea and get free advice from health care professionals.  From those humble beginnings the organisation grew in size and there are now 100 Baby Cafés across the country with overseas centres in New Zealand, Singapore and the USA, and over 6,000 mothers benefit from their services. Haywards Heath has a Youth Baby Café which meets during term time at the Albemarle Centre and serves the needs of younger parents, but sadly the original Baby Café is no longer running. Further information about the Baby Café can be found at www.thebabycafe.co.uk.
